A sneak preview of the four songs on the EP!

Almost a year ago to the day, David Rael and I laid down the first take the song we co-wrote, This Morning. Many hours of recording and mixing later, a four-track EP is ready and waiting to be launched.

The results won't be available until the 14th August, but in the meantime I thought I'd share the track listing to give you an idea of what to expect!

The story of a man who devotes his life to fulfilling a secret ambition - shunning the world and the prospect of love to give himself to the task. From its a cappella opening to its heart-rending orchestral climax, Flying Machine is about the blood sweat and tears that go into any creative endeavour. Its last verse explores the idea that we can never know what becomes of those we love once they leave this world - we can only dedicate our own lives to the dreams they leave behind.

Upbeat yet bittersweet, this wistful pop tune - the single from the EP - considers the pleasure and pain of nostalgia, summed up in the little things we hoard and the memories we hang onto. Two voices compete to be heard - one looking back on what might have been, the other fighting the temptation to revisit the past.

Taking a darker turn, this song begins in the first life-altering moments after a car accident, with the survivor's moment of epiphany. Yet in spite of its bleak opening, the message is ultimately life-affirming: in a world that we must face alone, love is our greatest defence.

Co-written with David Rael, This Morning is about the feeling of possibility and renewal that a clear sky and a sunny day can inspire. It tells the story of its own composition, from the first phrase appearing in the writer's mind on their way through London to the full song coming together.
